6 Minute Microwave Caramels

I am so excited about today’s post! We have had a request from a reader in Florida whose name is Tracey.  She would like us to try out the 6 Minute Microwave Caramels.  Apparently Tracey has had less than desirable results when she has tried this recipe.  Here is her experience in her own words:

“I don’t know what I am doing wrong but my goodness, everytime, either they do not set up (which leaves me for a nice can of what I now caramel-y sauce for ice cream) or they seem to set up and then when they are cut, they morph into some giant caramel ball! (I will neither confirm nor deny that I have been known to put sea salt on that bad boy and lick it everytime I go into, or pass, the kitchen for a few days…..makes me feel kind of like a deer at a a salt lick!)”

Well Tracey, you’ve thrown out the gauntlet and we are up for the challenge!  I mean, how hard could this be?  There are only 5 ingredients and it takes 6 minutes.  Right?  Taking the recipe from Food.com, I followed the instructions and poured my cooked caramel mixture into my prepared pan.So far so good.  I let the caramels cool and set for quite a long time and then cut them into squares.

Uh oh.  Here is where things started to go a little south.

While cutting, just like Tracey said, they did appear to be set but in trying to get a piece out, they all started to blob together. And if you are thinking that I didn’t let them set long enough, I let them set for HOURS.  H.O.U.R.S. people! But, still in an attempt to make this successful, I wrapped a caramel blob up in waxed paper.  Doesn’t it look purdy?Right about now my mother comes into the kitchen and I offer her the caramel. She takes it out and it turned into this:While these tasted perfectly yummy, I don’t think I want to serve something that, well, looks like it came from a sick cat.

So Tracey, I flopped right along with you but feel like I am in great company!  Sorry to say that This Pin Flopped!

I will neither confirm nor deny that I am going to put sea salt on this bad boy and lick it everytime I go into, or pass, the kitchen for a few days.

Just sayin.

  1. LOL. I had the same problem with them, too. I wound up re-heating the mix and pouring it into little Mason jars, then labeling it “Caramel Sauce for Ice Cream — reheat and pour”. Friends loved it, and had no idea it was a recipe fail. Found you via Ginger Snap Crafts, btw. If you haven’t already, I’d love if you’d come join my How To Tuesday link party, too.
