Texas Roadhouse Rolls with Honey Cinnamon Butter

If you’ve ever been to Texas Roadhouse, you know how amazing their rolls are! Does anyone go to Texas Roadhouse for anything else? :) Their rolls are soft, buttery, sweet, and when slathered with their Honey Cinnamon Butter, they are a bit of heaven; like floating on a cloud of bliss.

I made these rolls earlier in the day and when the family came over to celebrate our daughter’s birthday, they dug into the rolls. One of the first things mentioned was “these taste just like Texas Roadhouse rolls”. I didn’t even have to say that they were a copycat, they just immediately knew they were Texas Roadhouse rolls!

Texas Roadhouse Roll Recipe with Honey Cinnamon Butter {Copycat}

  • 2 cups milk, scalded and cooled to room temperature
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon
  • 7 to 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons salt
Honey Cinnamon Butter
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  1. In a small saucepan, bring milk to a boil and remove from heat. Allow to cool to room temperature..
  2. In a small microwave-safe dish, melt butter and set a side. In a separate bowl, mix together yeast, warm water, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Cover and set aside for 5 minutes while the yeast activates and foams.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add yeast mixture, ½ cup sugar, milk, and 3½ cups flour. Beat together for two minutes. Add butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well.
  4. Add the remaining flour a half cup at a time and continue mixing until the dough begins to separate from the sides of the bowl.
  5. Knead the dough for 5 minutes. If the dough seems sticky, add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time.
  6. Grease the inside of a large mixing bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn over once to grease the top. Loosely cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm place until double in size (about 45 mins to 1 hour).
  7. Punch down the dough with your fists and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out until ½" thick. Take one edge of the dough and fold the dough over in half. Using a rolling pin, lightly roll over the dough to seal it together.
  8. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover lightly with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise double in size (about 45 mins to 1 hour).
  9. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately brush on butter to the tops of the rolls. Best when served warm!
Honey Cinnamon Butter
  1. Whip together all ingredients in a medium-size bowl. Serve on rolls while warm or store in an airtight container in the fridge.

    • Looks like it was accidentally in the recipe twice. I have changed it so it is correct. It is just intended to be in the butter, so your rolls should turn out great, Jen!

      • FYI – I notice that it still has honey listed under the ingredients for the rolls. Also, can you give an approximate size that you roll the dough out to before folding it in half? It seems to me that even after its folded in half, it must be fairly large in order to cut out 60 2-inch squares. Thanks.

          Thanks, Cara. I think I have it right for reals now:) Don’t know about the size to roll out. Let’s do some math to figure it out. If we did 6×10 rolls it would be 12 inches by 20 inches after being folded. Hope that helps! When I tried Jeni’s recipe, I guestimated and they turned out great.

  5. Do these freeze well? Or does the dough? Or can you cut the recipe in half? I am planning on making these for Turkey Day and even with my family, there is NO WAY we will eat that many rolls.

    • I would try doing half a recipe. I made these and they were delicious, but small. So the amount seems huge, but it is also because they are not so big. You can freeze them for a week or two and warm in the oven to get that fresh baked flavor. You can also use them in a breakfast casserole, or for sandwiches later. They never go to waste in our house! Have a happy Thanksgiving!
